For more than 60 years, Eriez has maintained a reputation for quality products and a proven expertise in novel solutions for difficult material handling, magnetic separation and metal detection applications. Because they must be designed for rugged duty, some of the most challenging equipment is that built for the aggregate industry.
Established in 1954, Geneva Rock Products, Inc. is among the most respected and experienced rock processors and contractors in the state of Utah. When the company recently began to experience excessive equipment downtime because of metal contamination, they needed a quick, effective solution. “A problem was identified on a line with a conveyor feeding aggregate, or raw stone, into a vertical impact crusher,” said Ed Clayson, Geneva Rock Aggregate Superintendent. “We found that tramp metal contamination was mixed with product flows moving into the expensive crushers.” The cost of equipment failure was proving expensive. It was particularly severe within the crusher, where the rotor has a number of wear parts. “We were regularly repairing wear parts within the rotor assembly. The downtime on the crusher for maintenance – not to mention the replacement parts – were unnecessary expenses,” said Clayson. The company turned to Eriez for help. Eriez officials quickly determined that the Geneva Rock application called for Eriez’ Series 7000 Suspended Electromagnet. This powerful magnet effectively removes damaging tramp metal from thick, solid flows such as coal, limestone, sand or gravel.Immediately following the installation of the new suspended electromagnet, significant improvements were noted. The magnet was extremely successful in reducing wear part replacement in the crusher rotor. “We knew we needed the equipment and I knew Eriez had the Cadillac,” said Clayson. “We didn’t even wait for the results. We bought three units, two for Geneva and one for a sister company.”
