Careful screening of plastic granules, produced by American Cyanamid at Wallingford, CT, was not enough to keep the compounds free of metallic particles that could damage molds or turn up in customers’ molded products.

Installation of a number of Eriez Plate Magnets and Grate Magnets in various processing operations saved 1,000 pounds of plastic material each week that formerly had to be reworked. Increased production and a product free of ferrous contamination have been the happy results.

Tramp iron in polypropylene raw materials caused about 200 hours of downtime each year at Gilbert Manufacturing in Long Island City, NY. Their polypropylene was used to make plugs and sockets for holiday tree lights.

With the installation of Eriez Grate Magnets, the tramp iron that blocked nozzles of the automatic presses became negligible.

Iron dust endangered product purity. The small iron particles damaged parts of the extruder that produced polystyrene sheets at the Plastics Division of General American Transportation.

An Eriez Grate Magnet, installed in the extruder hopper, assured the quality of the finished product and saved hundreds of dollars a year in damage and downtime. Only periodic cleaning was required.

American Polymers, Inc., Patterson NJ, was finding ferrous contamination in reground cellulose.

The problem was solved using Eriez Plate Magnets to remove the ferrous fines.

Grate and Cartridge Magnets - Plastic and Rubber Industries

Plate and Suspended Permanent Magnets - Plastics and Rubber Industries

Remove unwanted ferrous metals to protect shredders, granulators, screens and barrells from damage and improve the downstream purity of your product. Seven magnetic strengths are available. They can be installed in chutes, feed tables, over conveyor belts, at the discharge end of a conveyor or screener or underneath a Vibratory Feeder. Sizes range from 4 to 72-inches (102 to 1828mm). Magnetic Humps - Plastics Industry

Magnetic Humps provide a simple and effective way to remove tramp iron contamination from gravity or pneumatically conveyed dry, free flowing products. Using two plate magnets in a dogleg shaped housing, the Magnetic Hump takes advantage of the density of the ferrous material. The heavier metallics are more likely to work their way toward the face of the magnet, increasing the probability of capture. With the two magnets and dogleg housing, the design is such that if ferrous metal is not removed with the first magnet, it will be captured by the second.
